Dentists acquire their academic qualification from undergraduate degree courses offered by medical schools and universities. A few of the subjects offered in these courses are microbiology, physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, radiology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and allied subjects like dental hygiene, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, etc. To qualify for a post-graduate degree course in dentistry from any of the medical schools or universities, candidates need to have a DDS (Diploma of Dental Surgery) or TMDS (Master of Dental Surgery) degree. Candidates who wish to practice dentists need to get an undergraduate degree from a reputed college of medicine, law or business before they apply for a post-graduate study program.
