Chiropractic – Alternative Medicine That Works

Chiropractic is an alternative and complementary science that is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of non-traumatic mechanical disorders of the skeletal system, particularly the back. It is based on the principle that the body is capable of healing itself, through a process of manipulation of the skeletal structure. Chiropractors are trained to carry out spinal manipulation and other related treatments using their hands and feet. The treatment of spinal disorders is part of general chiropractic care.Learn more about this at Palmercare Chiropractic Columbia, MD.

Chiropractors, also known as doctors of chiropractic, are trained to diagnose, treat and prevent disorders and diseases of the skeletal and nervous systems using their scientific approach. The main goal of this type of doctor is the prevention and reduction of spinal stress and pain. Patients usually receive chiropractic adjustments for the purpose of rehabilitation, to correct alignment problems and to regain normal range of motion and strength in the muscles and joints. During a chiropractic treatment, patients may be required to remain in a specific room, called a Chiropractic Suite. The suite consists of two things: a chair and pillows.

A chiropractor’s philosophy is that the primary reason for most diseases and disorders of the body is abnormal pressure exerted on the nervous system by the spinal structure. Thus, it is believed that spinal manipulation, spinal adjustments and use of other therapeutic devices can help to restore proper spinal alignment and relieve pain. Chiropractors can perform manual therapies, such as applying pressure on the muscles of the spine to reduce soreness or increase flexibility. Some chiropractors use heat therapy or ultrasound for pain relief. Other techniques used by chiropractors include stretching, strengthening and alignment training.
