What Is Concrete Raising?

In civil engineering, concrete raising is a process which attempts to adjust an uneven concrete surface by slightly raising the concrete level beneath it, thereby correcting an unbalanced surface. Raising concrete levels is a fairly simple process, but one that many do not think about until it is too late to do anything about it. Concrete is composed primarily of Portland cement, sand, and water. When mixed together, Portland cement forms a sort of paste with calcium carbonate and water. Once this mixture is mixed and poured into a mold, it will harden and become solid. While this process sounds relatively simple, it can actually get quite complicated. Concrete raising is a necessary and important process for several reasons. By placing steel rods or other forms of support under each level of concrete, buildings can be made stronger and more resistant to natural disasters such as earthquakes and flooding. Finally, by making sure that the concrete is properly raised, the overall aesthetic appearance of the area where the concrete is located can be improved.
