Cheap bathroom Redo
It’s a common thought that renovating a bathroom will cost a lot of money, but it doesn’t have to. If you are willing to do some shopping around, and some of the work yourself, you can really save a lot of money when renovating your bath. This will greatly increase the value of your home as well, so it’s a great thing to do. If you are looking for more tips, check out check it out.
You need to do as much of the work you can yourself, and only hire out professionals for things you can’t do. Now, a lot of people will think they can’t do any bathroom remodel work themselves, but that’s not true. The one thing that almost every person out there can do is demolition. Don’t go crazy, but decide on what is coming out of the bathroom and take it out yourself. If you just walk into the bathroom and start swinging the sledgehammer at everything you don’t like, that is not going to save you money in the end! If you hate that boring plain mirror hanging on the wall, use a lot of tape in a crossing pattern on the front of it, and then gently pry it off the wall. If you know that you are going to redo all of the tile around the bathtub or shower, take a hammer and chisel and pry them off. Do as much of the demolition work as you can and then clean it all up.
The next thing you need to do is learn to shop around. Did you want to replace your old counter top but thought that granite was too expensive? You need to figure out the exact measurements that you need, and then you can go shopping and ask for remnant pieces. These are pieces of granite the shop had left over from previous jobs. Many times you can get lucky and find a piece that is bigger than what you need, and then you just have it cut to your size. Doing this will save you quite a bit of money, and will make granite actually affordable!
The same exact thing is true for tiles. What you need to look for is a style of tiles that is discontinued. Discontinued tiles often sell for a much lower price. The reason is that the store just wants to get rid of the old inventory to make room for the new stuff. You need to figure out exactly how much tile you are going to need for your bathroom, and then make sure the store has that amount, plus an extra box or two. This will ensure that you’ll have the spare tile should any of the tiles in your bathroom get damaged, or if you drop one when putting it in.
Next, you’ll want to re-use your existing cabinets if you can. Again, you’re going to be doing some work here, but it’s going to be a lot cheaper than buying new cabinets. You need to take off the doors and then strip the old finish off them, plus the actual cabinet structure itself. Then go with a completely different stain than what you previously had. For most, this means going to a dark chocolate colored stain. When this is completed, the cabinets will look like they are brand new!
Doing all of this will make your bathroom remodel cost dramatically less than if you paid for all new things and had a contractor do all the work. The only work you’ll need a professional for is if there is any electrical work to be done, like rewiring switches or running wires for new light fixtures. You’ll also need to hire a professional plumber if you’ve moved any of those fixtures around. If you can’t put everything back together yourself, you can find a local handy man that could offer to do it for cheap. All these steps combined will leave you with a brand new bathroom that you love, but didn’t have to spend a fortune to get!
