Cannabidiol, CBD May Be The Answer For Chronic Pain
Cannabidiol or CBD as it is more commonly known is a plant compound that has been used for many years for the treatment of serious medical conditions such as seizures, along with other illnesses. People have been ingesting CBD since the 1970s, including ingestion on cancer patients and HIV/AIDS sufferers, and has been shown to be effective in a number of ways. Recent studies in Australia, however, have shown that CBD may be much more than just a “cure” for seizures. Recent news stories have reported that CBD may have even more health benefits. CBD is believed by some researchers to have the power to shrink tumors, and a clinical trial conducted in Brazil recently proved it was, in fact, capable of doing just that. The CBD drug was approved by the FDA in 2020 as being medically acceptable for use in the treatment of severe cases of epilepsy, along with clomipramine (also an approved drug), an anti-convulsant. It was later revealed that the CBD contained in these two drugs, along with a number of other compounds, were all natural plant extracts rather than synthetic chemical compounds, and CBD was found to be significantly more effective than the combined effect of these other ingredients.
So, what are the future prospects for CBD? Well, it is believed that CBD may be used not only to treat seizure disorders, but also to treat serious chronic pain. A recent press release reported that the Canadian government had begun the process of reviewing CBD for potential medical uses, including chronic pain management. Also under review is the potential use of CBD to treat nausea associated with cancer treatments, and possibly even the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. If successful, CBD may even become available to purchase over the counter, so long as it is kept in the original container. As for now, we’ll have to wait and see…perhaps we’ll see CBD products marketed as a “softer” alternative to opiates such as heroin and morphine, which have become extremely popular in recent years.
